For inspiration: 4 great ideas you can easily do to welcome autumn to your home, office, porch or garden:
Create a festive garland. Super fun and easy, not to mention a great activity for the kids.
This is a no-sew project that conveniently uses up those pesky fabric swatches you’ve collected and have meant to use. To create this pretty, reusable garland you’ll need:
- Fabric scraps in harvest hues (pick up inexpensive “fat quarters,” or quarter yards of material used for quilting, at any fabric store)
- Fusible interfacing
- An embroidery needle
- Floss
- An iron
- Scissors
Add lanterns! Indoors or out, nothing brings charm and warmth like decorative lanterns. Fill them with a variety of unique textured items, a string of twinkly white LED lights or even candles. Play with multiples as well as combinations of items for beautiful, autumnal effect.
Funky, reusable wood pumpkins. If you’ve got a storage shed or garage, chances are you’ve got the materials for this cute, rustic autumn project.
To make this cute and rustic wooden pumpkin, you simply need scrap 2X6 or 2×4 with a very straight cut bottom so as to be able to stand as well as:
- primer
- pumpkin orange paint
- paintbrush
- drill
- twigs
- leaves
- raffia
- glue gun
Here’s a cute variation, stacking the wood pieces:
Directions: Prime and paint the wood pieces (2 coats). Drill a hole in the top of the wood. Stick the twigs in the holes to provide the stems of your pumpkin. Glue them if you feel they need a little extra to stay in place. Glue leaves in place to the top and tie the raffia to the stems. Make one, or make a whole funky collection.
**Outdoor autumn decor tip:
Choose straw bales rather than hay. This is important because Straw is primarily stems with very little seed. Conversely, hay is full of seed that will sprout and result in pesky weeds that will be difficult to pull.
